Kids party RSVP problem – What should I do???

December 19th, 2010 7 comments

Question by Lovely Rita: Kids party RSVP problem – What should I do???
My sons 5th birthday party is on Sunday, we’ve invited the whole of his class plus some others. I know there’s 2 days to go yet but so far only 12 from the class have responded (8 are coming) and the ones from outside have all responded, which of course I appreciate but what about the rest? Do you think it’s rude not to RSVP and should I expect some of them to just turn up? It’s difficult because I have to set up the table and chairs for food and buy the food so I want to have enough but also don’t want loads of empty seats. I’ve told my son to ask some of the kids but I know thats not really reliable!
I don’t have any of their numbers so can’t call them, the ball is in their court.
Anyone have experience of this kind of thing? What should I do?
Thank you.
I don’t know who did thumbs down but it wasn’t me! Just been reading some past questions on this and it seems that most parents don’t bother to respond or think that they should only respond if they’re not coming – it’s so rude and frustrating, where did everybodys manners go?! Thanks for the answers.

I hate when people don’t RSVP…In my experiance if they don’t RSVP they usually aren’t coming. However, I do usually have a couple of extra goodie bags just in case… Have a good party!

Q&A: I want to paint my kitchen table. What type of paint should I use?

October 29th, 2010 10 comments

Question by Hipmama: I want to paint my kitchen table. What type of paint should I use?
My kitchen table is old, wooden, and the finish is nearly worn away. I want to sand it down and paint it antique white to match the chairs that I bought. I just want to know what kind of paint to use–one that will last. I also want to know if I should put some kind of finish on it that will protect the table from food and water–and kids!!!

should you be charged for a display item that was broken? breakable item on low table & unbalanced?

Question by Michelle: should you be charged for a display item that was broken? breakable item on low table & unbalanced?
low chair placed in front of twin beds in furniture store. Sat my 2yr old on chair so we could look at twin beds (kids furniture-right?) next to chair was table w/ceramic vases. My daughter placed hand on table to stand up and vase fell and chipped top. why would breakables be near children furniture. vase also had pads attached on bottom to prevent scratching, thus making them unsteady to begin with so a heavy breeze could knock them down

Best answer:

Answer by Dr. D
NO, the store has no power or legal right to charge you for any breakage, they put these signs up only to make you be aware that breakable items are around that area.

A store owner is inviting you into there premises so the are taking the liability and insurance to cover these mis fortunes.

Could you imagine a shop keep that couldn’t sell old stock so they set it up for the next customer that walked past the shelf of glass ware that it fell and broke and then blamed the customer.

What color paints should I use in my new house?

September 18th, 2010 4 comments

Question by Courtney W: What color paints should I use in my new house?
We just purchased our first home and I need help with colors. The living room furniture is a mocha brown color and we use a khaki for that room but it’s the dining room, kid’s room, master bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom I need help with, so almost the whole house. I want to do an orange for the kitchen, a red or dark blue for the dining room which has wood floors and wainscotting halfway up which I would do white, I think. For the bedroom I found a comforter set with tans, browns and aqua blue so I wanted to do a khaki color there too, which is off the kitchen so it will flow. The bathroom I would do white so I can change the shower curtain etc, when I get bored with it. But what about the kids room, my stepson is 10, and he’s not sure either. I guess I just need suggestions on all the rooms and thoughts on my ideas so far.

I have a red dining room and absolutely love it, just remember to use a dark primer, or you will be painting for days. I did my trim in black. It kind of looks like an italian cafe. I don’t think I would use a bright orange for the kitchen , but terra cotta would be cool. Do the kitchen and dining room touch? Are they going to clash? Check out some decorating websites with your step son. Congrats on the first home. Remember , that paint is just that ,and can be changed in a few hours. Go bold.

Our older cat’s behavior radically changed after the birth of our twins. What should we do?

September 17th, 2010 3 comments

Question by Trudi B: Our older cat’s behavior radically changed after the birth of our twins. What should we do?
Three years ago, we had twins. Since then, one of our cats has completely lost it (we’ve caught her on video so we know which one it is). Frequent urination all over the house, refusal to poop in the litter box (she’ll do it right outside or sometimes in another part of the house altogether), etc. If she can get into the kids’ room or anywhere near one of their blankets, she will make an extra effort to empty a full bladder. We keep our bed covered in plastic and can’t leave any cloth items on the floor anywhere in the house (including bath mats). This cat has peed on expensive furniture, including a glider and a sofa. We’ve tried behavior modification, but with two toddlers in the house our ability to deal with this problem is limited. This cat was a beloved, constant companion for 13 years, but she is now 16 and has been trouble for the last three years. Should we put her to sleep or let her live out her years? No one would adopt her — she is old, arthritic and pees everywhere!

You forgot “bathe your cat” in it.
Just don’t heat it up. I guess it’s REALLY bad for you if you heat it. They just found that out. I think..

What should i do about my cold hearted landlord?

September 7th, 2010 4 comments

Question by Heather: What should i do about my cold hearted landlord?
I have been having sewer problems for 3 months.(raw sewage and everything.) The land lord did not do very much to fix it and for the last 2 months has done nothing and i have 3 kids at home. I decided to not pay rent this month because i can barely stay there. This Sunday he came in without an eviction or anything (which in missouri you can’t do) an removed everything i owned. Sold all my furniture and threw away my kids’ toys and clothes. and yesterday he changed the locks. I can’t afford a lawyer and the cops say it’s civil matter. What should i do? (my husband is asking for the deposit back which is only 800 and our property is much more)
The land lord did not have a court order or anything he paid someone to take the stuff out and the poilce won’t even talk to him

Best answer:

Answer by Eve
Taking your furniture is called THEFT. That is not a civil matter. They also cannot change the locks without eviction first.

Try free legal services that they have for poor people.

Next time you have sewer problems, file a complaint with the health department.

Take him to small claims court…it is cheap.

Q&A: Should I get rid of my dead grandma’s dresser?

Question by Dadof4Kiddies: Should I get rid of my dead grandma’s dresser?
My grandma died about 15 years ago and my father kept the dresser to use in his house after my parent’s divorce. About 7 years ago my father died, and I inheirited the belongings in his house, I tried to give away the dresser, but my mom freaked out on me. She thinks since it is the only thing I have of my grandma’s, that I need to keep it.

My problem is that I don’t want it, its ugly, it smells and my wife and I are starting a family and it is not a kid’s furniture.Right now it is taking up the entire closet in the room we are converting to a nursery. And I want to tell my mom she can take it and have it take up her closet or she needs to shut up about it.

Should I get rid of it? I don’t care about an old dresser that isn’t worth anything. I don’t need it to remind me of my grandma, what should I do?
Its not an antique, its only 15-20 years old. Also, I have been storing it for 7 years now and I really need the room for kids. My mother doesn’t want it, she just wants me to hold on to it because I “should have sentimental feelings for it” because it belonged to my grandma. WTF???

Best answer:

Answer by Jumpy
You unsentimentalistic bastard. It is obviously an important family heirloom and has signifigance to you family. Go on, throw it away, along with any type of family heritage you have left.
