Is this a good strategy for a kids room?

June 2nd, 2011 3 comments

Question by Sweetpea has a pea in the pod!: Is this a good strategy for a kids room?
I read in a magazine that kid’s rooms need to be set up instations to keep them busy and make sure that they have well rounded play. This is the synopsis, they need a reading section, a music section, a pretend play section, an art section, and an active play section.

So I gave my son a bookcase full of books and some comfy pillows, a small toy piano, I am making him a puppet theater and he also has one of those city rugs, with cars, I am also making him a little table and chair, with crayons and papers, and he has a wagon and a pedal car.

Does his room sound well rounded? DO you think its a good system?
He does have some toys in our living room, but our apartment is rather small so there has to be a limit.
All his toys are neatly put away and concealed by curtains or cupboard doors at bedtime so he isn’t distracted.

Sounds like it to me.

My son doesnt play in his room. It us used for sleep and reading. He plays in the living room where he will have more space to play with everything. We have an extra large living room. We paint in here as well. I don’t think play should be based on one room.

about the age thing we have a baby girl due in 4 weeks and she will have her own room until she is sleeping through the night then she will come in this room with my daughter and my son will get the babys room to him self
my daughter is 5 and my son is 6 adn half he sleeps on the top and he has slept in a bunk bed at his hads house for 3 years so he knows bunk bed safety we can always take them down if they say anything we just ahve them togethe to give them room to play
as far as other things the court looks at we hav that in a abg we make money he sits at home on disability we play withthe kid sand do things with them he sticks them infront of a tv and goes off to play video games in his room we pay our bills he gets eviction notices, his elect disconnected, and car repoed
the only that that was recently bought was the book and the book shelf. they have had the table chairs beds and toys for a while and they get clothes when they are needed
will seperate in about a year when my son is almost 8 and my daughter 6 almost 7. my daughter wants a room with her sister and at some point a boy and girl shold not be in the same room they need privacy away from the opposite sex when changings and so forwth
i am doing this because he is a dead beat father that will not take my kids tothe doctor or dentist and not give them a bath or brush their teeth. my 4 year old daughter has ha 3 cavities since she was 2 and half and he knew never told me and never got them fixed but was on medicaid and could have had them fixed for free. that is why i am doing this i could care less about his kidney that is his problem that he got by not taking care of him self. my kids come first and their best intrest is not with him

Kids were building forts out of old cardboard boxes. Remember building forts? I just wish they had something more than trash to work with. My brother and I built some rocking forts with blankets, chairs, and pool tables back when we were about the size of that sign.

That sounds really good so far…You have listed some great ideas and I think your kids will have a lot of fun! Just make sure you have plenty of storage for all their toys :)

I’ve always thought it would be cool to get some blackboard pain and paint one section of the wall (probably at the bottom so the little ones could reach) so they could color on it like a blackboard.

Good luck!

This is my dining room table. I have a desk in my bedroom, but this is more spacious and less depressing as it gets more natural light.

At night you sometimes find people around this area, many of which hang out around the tables here. Sometime you may see kids and teenagers duel each other with TCG’s. I actually ran into a chap that was cosplaying a character from Tekken, playing his DS. Not sure what attracts people to this area. I do remember when I was a major TCG (trading card game) player, I appreciated any wide open space in public, especially if there were tables and/or chairs nearby. Being the city, and especially during the TCG explosion a few years back, it was actually common to run into others with decks. Do you play any TCG’s? Often run into fellows to duel?

Ideas for decorating the walls in our family room; black & white pictures of the kids, or artwork?

October 13th, 2010 4 comments

Question by blue_eyed_girl: Ideas for decorating the walls in our family room; black & white pictures of the kids, or artwork?
I’d like to update our family room walls a bit, but can’t decide if I should put pictures of our kids all over or artwork? If artwork, should it be all from the same artist? Also, thoughts on the large iron barn stars, too country? Our a large wall clock? The room is kind of small…

I have brown suede couches, goldish-tan paint on the walls. In particular I have a four foot space above the couch which is in between two large windows – this could be a space for a barn star, or clock, or ? Also, we have one large wall without couches underneath, just a leather chair/side table at the edge of the wall. How do I make something look like it belongs there and not just floating?

My style is kind of modern country, I like the look in Pottery Barn. Any ideas on how to make a room look together? Thank you!

You want to maybe put a picture of two of the kids in a living or family room but family photos should be kept in the hallways. You will want to decorate with artwork. No it doesn’t have to be all from the same artist but it does have to have similar styles and should just be whatever you like to look at since you are the one who lives there and will see it daily.

Decorating a teen’s room?

August 29th, 2010 2 comments

Question by rosiegirl: Decorating a teen’s room?
Okay, my mom says that I can re-do my room next year. Right now, I have a kid’s furniture set from Ashley furniture-the cottage retreat collection-and if you could suggest a collection of furniture that doesn’t look babyish but not stuffy either, that would be great. Also, a paint color, bedding, anything you see that would really be a fun way to make my room look cute!
i LOVE bright colors in my room. it pumps me up in the morning and i have it painted a crazy bright pink from benjamin moore paints right now.

You should look on craigslist.com. You can find really unique pieces of furniture sometimes and decorate to your own taste completely, plus you can usually find bargains which will free up a little more of the budget for some “extras.” As for paint color, think of the color that you’d like to see when you first wake up every morning. Make sure the shade you pick isn’t too dark, or too bright,or you may get tired of it quickly. Have fun redecorating!
