Picking Children and Baby Furniture For a Nursery

April 12th, 2010 No comments

Picking children and baby furniture for a nursery is very important. You might want to run out and buy some things that you are only going to be able to use for a few months, such as a bassinet, a carrier car seat, or a mobile. These things are only going to be used for a few months and then you will have to go out and buy new things again.

Convertible items are fantastic for people who are on a tight budget. There are convertible cribs and car seats on the market that can be used through the toddler years and even beyond. A favorite item for most parents would be the convertible crib. Some cribs even have a function to use them as a bassinet. Then it can be converted to a crib, and then into a toddler bed, and some even convert into a full sized headboard. So you can see how long this would last. You would be able to use the same piece of furniture for years.

Running in the same direction as a crib would be the purchase of a good crib mattress. You would definitely need to purchase a mattress with metal coils in them. Plain foam mattresses may be a little cheaper, but they wear out so much quicker compared to metal coils. Considering these mattresses will be used for several years, it would be better to buy a good mattress.

Also, convertible car seats are a fantastic buy. They have attachments to snuggle a small baby into, and once they have head control you can remove the cushions. Then, once they are old enough, the car seat converts from a rear-facing car seat to a forward-facing car seat. Some of the better models will even convert from a forward facing seat into a booster seat for toddlers.

A great thing to have in a nursery would be a diaper changing table. The best models include extra storage for your baby lotion, your baby powder, and extra packages of diapers and wipes. Once a baby outgrows a changing table, the changing pad can always be removed and the table used for extra storage of toys.

A great piece of baby furniture would include a dresser. These can always be purchased secondhand and refreshed with a coat of paint and drawer liners. These will definitely grow with a baby, through the toddler stage, and beyond. A child will always need clothes, and a storage place to hold them! Extra storage is a plus in a child’s room. As a child grows, toys will multiply and you will need things to hold them.

As a baby, these storage units can hold blankets, spare diapers, and clothing. A thrifty parent will be able to find great baby furniture for a nursery that will grow with their child. Things that are able to be redecorated will be even more cost efficient. When Junior doesn’t like trains anymore, a dresser can always be repainted, and you will be grateful that you purchased your children’s furniture with cost efficiency in mind.

Robert Crager understands how childrens furniture can help kids have their own special place in the home. He finds it important to let the kids pick out their own childrens furniture in order for them to achieve that.

Childrens Furniture and Nursery Furniture. Your Primer

When you get the joyous news that you have a child on the way one of the first purchases you’ll need to consider is a cot. Babies and young children need plenty of sleep to help them grow and so a comfortable and secure cot and mattress will be an essential addition to your home.

A cot is definitely the safest and most popular option for babies to sleep in and you can expect their first cot to last them from the day they come home in your arms from the hospital until around the age of three years old.

Cots have traditionally been fashioned from wood with two solid ends and a set of bars on either side which help to keep your baby secure and ensure they can’t fall out of bed. Generally one side of the cot will slide down to allow you easy access to your baby and make it easier to periodically turn the mattress and change the bedding. This is known as a drop-side mechanism and you can also use it to place the cot next to your bed and lie next to your baby without disturbing them.

Cots and mattresses are usually sold separately and you should ensure the mattress you select is a snug fit. The cot itself should conform to safety standards and be free of sharp edges or parts which could trap small hands.

While it may be tempting to re-use your own childhood cot safety standards have moved on in recent years and to reduce the risk of any problems you should consider buying a new cot and mattress for your child.

The reasonably priced economy cot comes in stylish teak, pine or white and meets safety standards with rounded corners and edges and a gloss varnish. This is a durable cot which also features swivelling castors for easy movement so that you can wheel the cot wherever you want it and a drop-side mechanism for easy access.

You can buy a breath easy spring mattress with a ten year warranty separately which will fit perfectly into your cot.

Your baby will spend many hours in their cot and so it is worth investing in one which will stand the test of time. To help your baby enjoy their cot you may also want to fit a mobile or activity centre. However, these should be removed at night so that your baby can get a peaceful night of rest.

There are also cots that come equipped with a teething rail which can be a great help to your child as they go through the painful process of cutting their first teeth.

You may also want to consider a larger cot when your baby grows a bit older and there is an option which can be converted into junior bed ideal for introducing your child to a new bedtime routine without unsettling them.

Cots ordred online should be easy to assemble and for your convenience delivered direct to your door.
