  • What is the funniest/most odd position you’ve seen your child sleep in?

    June 1st, 2011 14 comments

Question by Gabrielle ♡: What is the funniest/most odd position you’ve seen your child sleep in?
This afternoon when I went into my son’s room to see if he was up from his nap, I found him at his little table and chair sitting in the chair with his face down straight on the table! He fell asleep there with his blanket and his thumb in his mouth (he’s two). Imagine walking in and seeing your toddler asleep at his little table and chair, lol. It was too cute.

How about you? What is the craziest position you’ve seen your kids sleep in?

    That’s too cute!
I don’t have kids yet. But when I was little, I almost always slept with my knees tucked under me and my butt up in the air.

What to expect from child services home visit (long)?

    May 2nd, 2011 3 comments

Question by April: What to expect from child services home visit (long)?
Okay so my boyfriend won full physical & legal custody of his children with his ex getting supervised visitation every other Saturday. They have been living with us for 2 months straight now.

We got a call from DHR this morning saying they need to do a home visit. No problem. Our home is clean, we have food so things should be fine. Does anyone know exactly what they will look for besides bed, clothes, food & safety?

The 3 year old had a twin size bed but I have the 2 year old using a twin size mattress on the floor. He is too old for a crib because he climbs out. I can’t keep him on a toddler bed or a twin bed even with rails he still manages to fall off a LOT. I moved his mattress to the floor because I am scared he is going to get hurt. Will this count against us? He is a very restless sleeper. We have watched him roll from his bed, across the floor and into the hall without ever waking up. I use a baby monitor so I will know when he is off the mattress.

Anyway, do we need safety latches on kitchen drawers, etc? I have them on some drawers but not all. Just the ones with utensils like knives & any cleaning products. Also our kitchen is very small so we don’t have enough room for a full size table. The kids use a child size folding table & chairs and we use the “bar”.

Is there anything else we need to “look out for”? This has to go well or the state gets the kids. We filed for custody because of their bio mom’s living conditions She was given a choice by the judge, her abusive boyfriend or her kids. She chose the boyfriend. So she cant get them back. (Not that we want her to at this point)

We have already arranged doctor/dentist visits to ensure nothing important is missed. (The 2 year old has asthma & allergies)

One more thing, the kids have a dresser in their room but I dont keep their clothes in it. They are bad about emptying the drawers so all of their clothes are in a dresser in our bedroom. The drawers on the dresser in their room are nailed shut to prevent the youngest from using the drawers to climb. It has a TV on top of it but everything is teethered to the wall. (These kids are very active, lol)

Any tips or advice will be greatly appreciated! TIA!

    (Please excuse any typos)
The judge ordered the DHR visit when we won custody. I think it is because we live in a different county than where we went to court…if that makes since.

The judge told him to consider his self lucky to have a girlfriend willing to take on all this lol.

We have 2 bedrooms. The kids-both boys-share a room. We were told that this was fine.
    *sense not since

Sometimes they will personally ask the child how you are treating them and what they do on the regular basis. I think you pretty much have everything down pack just make sure your dressed presentable and make sure no dangerous objects are around or smoking, anything poisonous to the child. If you have any educational things like A, B, C. Make sure things like that are visible so they can see your teaching the child and making sure they have an education.

Q&A: my child teacher and kids being abused at daycare by other kids?

    November 25th, 2010 3 comments

Question by smokeydoc75: my child teacher and kids being abused at daycare by other kids?
My daughters daycare class had to take cover under tables because 2 kids were throwing chairs at the teacher and around the room.
I have talked with the teachers at daycare, the staff director and the owner about the ongoing problem that goes on in the school aged class. They seem to not think this is a serious issue, but tell me they will look into it.I know the teachers have got to be fed up but maybe afraid of speaking up and losing their jobs, not sure, why? The children in this class are between the ages of 6 and 11.My daughter is 6 and tells all,but I have also spoke with other kids to see if there stories matched my daughters and they did.I picked my daughter up yesterday and walked into the room which was a total disaster,as if wild animals were set lose and locked in the room.My daughter hysterically runs up to me and tells me all the kids had to take cover under the table so they didnt get hit with flying objects such as toys and cahirs, etc.I looked around to find the teacher whom was in total shock scratches across her neck red marks on her arms and face and teeth marks on her arms and hands.

Does anyone know where I can get an inexpensive child size table at?

    November 17th, 2010 3 comments

Question by Liz: Does anyone know where I can get an inexpensive child size table at?
I want a little table for my children to do activities like painting, coloring ect. on but i can find those little one’s at walmart with the spiderman and so forth but i need more room. I have 3 kids so it has to be big enough to fit the three of them with space for supplies too. I have been looking at the daycare furniture sites but those tables cost alot of money and you have to buy the chairs seperately which makes it cost even more. I’ll take any suggestions thanks

The state is taking my ex-hub to court for child support?

    September 3rd, 2010 16 comments

Question by tammie h: The state is taking my ex-hub to court for child support?
In 2 weeks I have to appear in court for the State against my ex hub for lack of paying child support. I need to know how others feel, if I have a right to the support or not. Here is the situation: My ex and I were married 17 years. We have 4 beautiful kids. In the divorce settlement, I gave him everything. I just wanted out.. I gave up my childcare business ( I couldnt keep it –license does not travel with you,and anyway I moved into an apartment-kinda hard to take 16 kids with you lol)He got the house, the 4 snowmobiles, 2 boats, his car he was restoring, his business I helped him build, most of our household goods-furniture–including lots brand new, I took my china huth, a few home interior pics, and the vaccume. I bought my own dishes and towels ect. He wouldn’t even let me take the kid’s beds they got for Christmas. When we first divorced, 2 kids stayed with him and 2 with me. He got a lawyer, i didnt get one. He decided the child support. I didn’t contest anything-
I didn’t contest anything. In the divorce papers he was to pay child support and reimburse me for health insurance. He payed for the child support for 2 years, and only paid for the child support for about 5 months. Over the last 5 years, the kids have gone from his house to mine, at one point I had all 4 with me. 2 of our kids have graduated and moved out on their own. We have a 16 and 12 yr old left. Until about 2 months ago, my 12 yr old was with me and 16 with him. Now I have both girls. The 16 yr old was allowed to run free with no rules, all the $ she could ask for ect, but no love, finally she decided she would rather live with me, where there is rules, little $ , but lots of love. In Janurary of this year my ex decided that since he had my 16 yr old for 2 yrs, that he paid all he needed to pay in child support since he was paying for 2 kids and 1 of which was living with him. HOWEVER- I have not made him pay the Health insurance for the last 5 years, so I had no prob
So I had no proble letting him pay-the Insurance amount is just about the differance in child support from 1 to 2 kids. He quit paying his child support over 9 months ago. Has not paid insurance in over 3 years, has not bought the kids birthday or x-mas gifts the last 3 years, has not helped with school clothes, sports fees, school pics ect. He feels since I have a live in boyfriend now (he also has a live in gf–and they have a baby together) that he no longer has to pay anything. I am going to show up when he goes to court, and try to make sure they throw the bookat him. I have been more then fair the last 5 years, but am now sooo tired of the deadbeat. Am I wrong to want to see him pay?
To Bob D– Sorry to burst your bubble Charlie–there was no other man. I got out of a very abusive relationship. I wanted all my children with me, but 2 of them made the desicion to stay with their dad against my wishes. He had promised them cars and whatever else they wanted–they were 15 & 16 at the time. they lived with him as long as they could take it, and eventually made it back to me where I had the honor of trying to correct the damage their father did to them–which I did with a full heart–all I ever wanted was my family. I did not meet a man as you suggested until 3 years after my divorce was final. so put that in your pipe and smoke away.

At what age can a child sit in a kid-sized chair at a kid-sized table?

Question by Jill P: At what age can a child sit in a kid-sized chair at a kid-sized table?
My son is turning 1 next month — I’d like to buy him a kid-sized table and chairs either for his birthday or Xmas, but am not sure at what age he’ll be able to use it. He is crawling, pulling up, almost walking, and starting to climb stairs. Thanks!

My boys started at around 15 months. By 18 months they were very good at it (no falling, etc).
