where can I buy a kid’s throw rug – not online?

September 4th, 2010 kids No comments

Question by karatelovr: where can I buy a kid’s throw rug – not online?
I want to put an area rug near the crib since I don’t have a nursery, just some space in an extra bedroom (that also contains other furniture). I figure the rug would kind of separate the baby’s space. I found some really cute ones – designed specifically with bright colors, shapes, animals, etc on www.rugstomydoor.com but they are very expensive. Is there a brick and mortor store with that kind of product?

Have you looked at K-Mart, Target, Lowe’s, and such? They have them — maybe not the exact ‘cute’ patterns you like, but take a look:

http://www.target.com/gp/search/ref=sr_ln_2/182-5849509-1573617?ie=UTF8&search-alias=tgt-bedandbath&frombrowse=0&index=target&field-browse=1041482&rh=k%3Arug%2Cn%3A4174341&field-keywords=rug

Or, there are thrift stores, but you may have to stop in several times before you find what you’re looking for.

The state is taking my ex-hub to court for child support?

Question by tammie h: The state is taking my ex-hub to court for child support?
In 2 weeks I have to appear in court for the State against my ex hub for lack of paying child support. I need to know how others feel, if I have a right to the support or not. Here is the situation: My ex and I were married 17 years. We have 4 beautiful kids. In the divorce settlement, I gave him everything. I just wanted out.. I gave up my childcare business ( I couldnt keep it –license does not travel with you,and anyway I moved into an apartment-kinda hard to take 16 kids with you lol)He got the house, the 4 snowmobiles, 2 boats, his car he was restoring, his business I helped him build, most of our household goods-furniture–including lots brand new, I took my china huth, a few home interior pics, and the vaccume. I bought my own dishes and towels ect. He wouldn’t even let me take the kid’s beds they got for Christmas. When we first divorced, 2 kids stayed with him and 2 with me. He got a lawyer, i didnt get one. He decided the child support. I didn’t contest anything-
I didn’t contest anything. In the divorce papers he was to pay child support and reimburse me for health insurance. He payed for the child support for 2 years, and only paid for the child support for about 5 months. Over the last 5 years, the kids have gone from his house to mine, at one point I had all 4 with me. 2 of our kids have graduated and moved out on their own. We have a 16 and 12 yr old left. Until about 2 months ago, my 12 yr old was with me and 16 with him. Now I have both girls. The 16 yr old was allowed to run free with no rules, all the $ she could ask for ect, but no love, finally she decided she would rather live with me, where there is rules, little $ , but lots of love. In Janurary of this year my ex decided that since he had my 16 yr old for 2 yrs, that he paid all he needed to pay in child support since he was paying for 2 kids and 1 of which was living with him. HOWEVER- I have not made him pay the Health insurance for the last 5 years, so I had no prob
So I had no proble letting him pay-the Insurance amount is just about the differance in child support from 1 to 2 kids. He quit paying his child support over 9 months ago. Has not paid insurance in over 3 years, has not bought the kids birthday or x-mas gifts the last 3 years, has not helped with school clothes, sports fees, school pics ect. He feels since I have a live in boyfriend now (he also has a live in gf–and they have a baby together) that he no longer has to pay anything. I am going to show up when he goes to court, and try to make sure they throw the bookat him. I have been more then fair the last 5 years, but am now sooo tired of the deadbeat. Am I wrong to want to see him pay?
To Bob D– Sorry to burst your bubble Charlie–there was no other man. I got out of a very abusive relationship. I wanted all my children with me, but 2 of them made the desicion to stay with their dad against my wishes. He had promised them cars and whatever else they wanted–they were 15 & 16 at the time. they lived with him as long as they could take it, and eventually made it back to me where I had the honor of trying to correct the damage their father did to them–which I did with a full heart–all I ever wanted was my family. I did not meet a man as you suggested until 3 years after my divorce was final. so put that in your pipe and smoke away.

Q&A: I need to leave my husband but I have no job or money of my own. What can I do?

Question by Miss Informed: I need to leave my husband but I have no job or money of my own. What can I do?
My husband is an alcoholic who refuses treatment. He’s in the military but they don’t know of his problems yet. He’s gotten physical with me, and has shoved me down when I confronted him about drinking, and regularly gets in my face or throws things when angry. We have 2 kids under the age of 4. My husband is an officer in the Air Force, and we live in base housing. We’ve done counseling and he refuses to believe anything they say and says they’re targeting him and make him feel “evil”. I left a while back, but came back when he promised he’d go to counseling and stop drinking. I don’t want to leave without my kids’ beds and some furniture again, because this time will be for good. I have family who lives in South Carolina near Charleston, and I’d like to move to that area, but I know I can’t afford it. I’m afraid he’ll refuse to help out. I don’t have a job or a college education because we had decided I would stay home with the kids until they were in school before pursuing my education and career. Do I have any legal rights?

What am I entitled to take with me when I leave abusive husband?

August 31st, 2010 kids 12 comments

Question by Veronique: What am I entitled to take with me when I leave abusive husband?
I am going to leave my abusive husband of 8 years( together for 12) by this weekend. I know that it’s now or never. I want to take some things with me like my kid’s bed and dressers, our clothes, washing machine and big screen tv. I was going to leave the livingroom furniture, deep freezer and all of his collectibles( sports figurines, cars etc). We live in Michigan. I’m just wondering should I just take what I can and get the hell out of dodge or what? I’m also considering a personal protection order. I am really nervous as I don’t have a job right now. My kids and I are going over to my mom’s to live while I get on my feet. My mom is great and says she’ll provide for us while I get on my feet.I am not a deadbeat, I worked and paid bills ( even though he ’s told everyone that I didn’t do shit but lay on my ass which is a total lie). I was laid off. I’m wondering what I may be entiltled to take with me? Our house is in foreclosure so that’s not an option to stay anyway & I fear him.

Take what you purchased yourself, or what he doesn’t want.

Most of all, you’re taking something no one can take away from you — your dignity!

Q&A: Should I get rid of my dead grandma’s dresser?

Question by Dadof4Kiddies: Should I get rid of my dead grandma’s dresser?
My grandma died about 15 years ago and my father kept the dresser to use in his house after my parent’s divorce. About 7 years ago my father died, and I inheirited the belongings in his house, I tried to give away the dresser, but my mom freaked out on me. She thinks since it is the only thing I have of my grandma’s, that I need to keep it.

My problem is that I don’t want it, its ugly, it smells and my wife and I are starting a family and it is not a kid’s furniture.Right now it is taking up the entire closet in the room we are converting to a nursery. And I want to tell my mom she can take it and have it take up her closet or she needs to shut up about it.

Should I get rid of it? I don’t care about an old dresser that isn’t worth anything. I don’t need it to remind me of my grandma, what should I do?
Its not an antique, its only 15-20 years old. Also, I have been storing it for 7 years now and I really need the room for kids. My mother doesn’t want it, she just wants me to hold on to it because I “should have sentimental feelings for it” because it belonged to my grandma. WTF???

Does anyone know the name of this movie?

August 30th, 2010 kids 1 comment

Question by Taylor: Does anyone know the name of this movie?
It was a kid’s movie made sometime in the mid 90’s. Where these kids go to their aunt’s house and her house has musical pieces of furniture and other things. And the aunt has all these music boxes but the people inside are real and preform for them all. Later that night someone steals the little music box people’s instruments and other items they need to preform. After investigating they figure out it is the guy from the one man show “music box”. As you might have guessed it is a musical. Thanks for the help. =)

“Wee Sing in the Marvelous Musical Mansion” (1992)?
lex, Benji, and their neighbor and dear friend Kelly go on a musical car ride with Aunty Annabella to visit Uncle Rubato in his marvelous musical mansion. They explore the house and all its magical features, including a talking door knocker, a singing coat rack, a mysterious cat named Cadenza, musical chairs, a rhythm machine, and music boxes that come alive! But when a mysterious thief begins plundering items from the house, can Kelly and her friends catch the crook? With help from the singing knights, some ancestors, the birdwatchers named Madge and Maude, and the house itself, the case is resolved in time for a catchy rendition of Oh When The Saints Go Marching In!
